Met. Earth AWS (Automatic Weather Station)

Meteorological & Environmental Monitoring Weather Station & Navigation Marker

The Met. Earth AWS represents a new innovative approach in Landstation design.

The Met. Earth AWS has an extremely high standard of accurancy, reliability and flexibility in comparision to other Met Mast in the market place for a comparatively less cost.

A new approach was taken in developing the Met. Earth land station, where getting the most accurate data possible was the main consideration.

High precision wind measurement is the standout feature of the Met. Earth AWS, but its modular design and integrated computer system provides a flexible platform that allows for the addition of all manner of data capture systems, as defined by the customer. This modularity allows it or its various modular components to be mounted almost anywhere e.g. buildings, bridges, lighthouses, islands, road side, marine piles and reefs etc.

Wind speed and direction, temperature, barometric pressure, humidity, rain, solar radiance visibility and pollution information are just some among the many data parameters the Met. Earth AWS can be configured to capture.

The integrated electronics can run off mains power or alternatively aseres of battery backed solar pannels allows the Weather Station to runs continously. Remote mangement figures allows re-configuration, upgrades and management from the MDS Data Centre.

The mast can also be supplied with a range of differently shaped and coloured “topmark” symbols, as can the navigation light (as defined by IALA regulations) allowing it to be used as a dual purpose Met. AWS / Navigational Marker. Or if purchased without the Met. and electronics package solely as a Navigational Marker.

The anemometer comes as standard on top of a 10m+ mast, thus greatly reducing the frication effect the lands surface has on the wind and turbulence created by surrounding objects. Having the main instrumentation well above the ground also reduces the thermal effect on the measurements, caused when sensors are situated closer to the ground. While a multitude of other heights are possible, the 10m height is standard, due to it being the lowest level most weather models operate at and thus allows accurate validation of model data. Having the instrumentation mounted out of easy reach of thieves also negates the need for expensive security fencing.

When deployed in urban and rural environments, due to the lack of support stays and thin low profile shape of the mast (Which is vital for accurate data measurements), the installation has a very low visual impact. Is lack of horizontal surfaces and smooth finish also makes it difficult for both wildlife and thieves to climb.
